CA - CPT preparation tips-2 ( subject wise)

Hello friends.! Here today i will be discussing about study tips for each subject of CPT individually. In CPT every subject comes with objective question so you can score full marks in each subject.  For each and every subject u must and must complete the following books.
- ICAI'S MATERIAL
- MODEL TEST PAPER OF ICAI ( I & II )
- SCANNER
- AT LEAST ONE REFERENCE BOOK (i have mentioned only few reference books but there are many others)
Ok lets start each subject individually......
1. ACCOUNTANCY
Normally this is not tough for students of management but those with a non- commerce background may feel it difficult. Well for everyone I recommend to have a crystal clear concept of DEBIT AND CREDIT. This helps a lot in most of the chapter. Also know the sequence behind how the P/L and Balance sheet is prepared. For concept you can take help of some reference books like Padhukas.
-At first there is theory part. History of accounting and some accounting concept. So for these knowing the  accounting concept (business entity, money measurement, going concern etc.) and principles is enough. Read from icai material and highlight for quick revision.
- The second part is the basic accounting like journal, ledger, trial balance. Here very simple way is to understand the journal entry and the link between journal to ledger, ledger to trial balance and then trial balance to p/l and balance sheet.
- Now there are chapter like Joint venture and Consignment. For these once you understand one conceptual question the rest are often repetitive.
- In chapter like partnership you should know methods of goodwill calculation, read the theory part from study material and practicing some illustration will help.
In accounts scanner and model question play a great role.
2. MERCANTILE LAW:
Law is usually a arduous subject for most students but if you handle it in a right manner then you can definitely get good marks. I got 40 out of 40 in law and you can get the same. Following points shall be useful.
- Law needs to be handled with care. Whenever you read the bare text of The Act you need to read it precisely by understanding the meaning of every word.
- At level 1 start reading from ICAI'S material. Understand this and do all the questions given. If you are confused in any question don't panic and just mark that question.
- Now level 2 you need refer some reference books like ( S. Chand/ PPS  GOGNA, Padhukas, P. C. Tulshyan) and compulsorily make a note copy consisting of :
* summary of whole act in a systematic way
* some important points
* conceptual questions with options and right answer.
- Now level 3, now read the bare act of INDIAN CONTRACT ACT (Sec 1-75)
SALE OF GOODS ACT
PARTNERSHIP ACT
(The bare act can be easily found in Google.)
While doing this you may discover some new points so note it down in your summary. In this level read the text of bare act very precisely. At this time you may come across some unnecessary concepts. Do ignore them.
Remember that you need to do a lot and lot of practice. Solve the inconsistencies between answers of two different authors( to extent possible). There are such questions which have double answer so leave such questions.  Practice should be such that it leads to instant revision. You must be able to revise the scanner+ ICAI'S material+ model test+ reference book
3. ECONOMICS :
Here we have two types of economics. Micro and macro
Micro consists of historical background, some theories and some curves. For this...
- First of all you must read from the ICAI'S material. This is the best book to get the concept. In your first reading keep highlighting the important points.
- Since economics is a theory subject practicing is fun but u must first get the entire concept from study material. Understand the curves and reasons behind the shape of the curve. A lot of questions is asked regarding the properties of the curves.
- In economics i didn't refer any reference books because if u complete your study material word by word + model test + scanner then more than enough. ( only completing is not enough you must also have the concept in hand)
- Even in this make a note copy of twisted and typical questions and also mark such questions while practicing.
NOW MACRO ECONOMICS
- Even in this must read ICAI'S material only. Nothing more than that. Don't go for reference books. Also if there are some recent major changes in Indian economy then have a basic knowledge of that also.

- Many of my friends were worried about how to remember so much data and figures. Well though there is nowadays a decreasing trend of asking figures still you must know only the important ones. For this i suggest take  a paper and start with a lesson and write down the important data in that paper. Now each day when u go to your coaching or when you have little free time read that paper. Do this for most of the lessons of macro. This builds confidence that I know the data.
- For full forms I had written all the full forms in one place which could be revised any time easily.
- Apart from data many concept- based questions are asked which can be easily  solved only if u have read the ICAI'S material. Full focus on ICAI'S material line to line.
4. QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE:
It consists of Mathematics and statistics.
For mathematics it is all about tricks + concept
- Here foremost thing is to understand the  formulas, steps which is gained either by classes or ICAI'S material.
- Second is a lot of practice. To make practice fun you can take help of some calculator tricks. Best book to learn the calculator trick is of KAILASH THAKUR. Applying such trick helps to solve more questions in less time.
- To practice you can refer Padhukas as it has a lot of questions. Before starting this book u must have the concept. This book is only for practice not for concept learning.
- While practicing, you can note down some typical questions with solution in a separate copy.
- In chapters like sequence and series, ratios, logarithm , equations etc. answers can be found from CFO method (Check From Option)
For eg: if we need to find value of x then you can take the values given in option and see which value matches the equation.
Now another night mare for most of the students..... STATISTICS
- For the first theory chapter read from ICAI'S material. For practice do ICAI'S material and scanner.
- Now in rest of the chapters it is all about the properties of mean, median, standard deviation,  correlation, regression, sample etc. In exam mostly either the properties is asked directly or practical questions based on properties is asked.
- For stat also Kailash thakur and padhukas is good. If you try to understand the formula and do not rote learn then practice is fun.
So in a nutshell things again come to CONCEPT+ PRACTICE. Nothing else. So enjoy reading and always read with the aim of getting the RANK . It constantly pushes you to do your best. Give your heart and soul to CA and it will bring wonders.
Remember IF YOU CONSISTENTLY DO YOUR BEST THEN THE WORST WILL NEVER HAPPEN.
And lastly do provide your valuable suggestions and feedback. If you like it then share it with your friends also.
Have a good day...........!
